OK, I'm getting everything ready to make the switch from the old machine to the new one. I have the System ID, and the original Serial number that came with MC4.05. But i remember when upgrading to Version 5 I was given a new serial number - which 'didn't work: I was told at the time by Marianna that it was a 'Student' number, and she gave me a new one - which I have.

How can I confirm I have the correct serial number before going through hoops again?! Alternatively, if/when I do decide to upgrade to 5.5, I guess I'd get another serial number for that (?). It may therefore be a wise move not to get MC5 running on this new machine at all but go straight to 5.5 - it's just that ther upgrade would be sooner than I would really like (or could afford at the moment!).
